Reduce your risk of falling by performing agility exercises and placing positive stress on the bones, muscles, and cardiovascular system to keep them healthy and strong. Walk with more assurance and confidence. This is a fun class for all levels to improve your range of motion and ability to move your body quickly, easily, and with control & balance.
Thursdays | Year Round
The “Turtles” hike all year round on Thursday mornings. We switch to snowshoes and yaktrax in winter, rec paths during mud season and easy hikes all summer. Our hikes are usually 3 to 5 miles. Sometimes we have some “Snails” who hike at a slower pace and not as far. We want our group to be accessible to all so come and enjoy our beautiful mountains.
To be added to the Turtles and Snails hike distribution list email Pat Kopystianskyj (pkopysti@comcast.net)

Tuesdays, 8:30 AM | June – Mid October
Summit Older Bushwhackers (SOBs) do intermediate backcountry trail hikes on Tuesdays, mostly in Summit County. These typically range from 4 – 7 miles and with 400 – 1500 ft of elevation gain. They are led by volunteer trip leaders, usually a different leader each week. We meet from June through mid October, weather permitting. We usually leave the car-pool location at 8:30 and are back between 12 and (rarely) 2 pm. For more information, call Jim Fleshman at 281-507-1059 or email rjftex@gmail.com.

Evidence has shown Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Arthritis program helps prevent falls and improves health and the quality of life for older adults. Tai chi movements appear gentle and graceful, but they contain much power and internal strength. This is an excellent opportunity to come and learn more about this exercise. Facilitator Kim Greene will review the basic principles of tai chi and provide a demonstration of its fundamental forms.
Mondays & Fridays, 10:00AM – 11:15AM
Melinda’s yoga classes vary depending on who shows up and what their experience is, and what their expectations are for the day. It is truly a community-centered offering!
Typically, one can expect the practice to include breathing, moving in coordination with breathing, balancing, strengthening and stretching. The classes begin and end with mindfulness and intention and the students “tune in” with mantras and close with a song. Melinda teaches from her experiences with Kundalini, Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin yoga, and offers and encourages modifications and even chair yoga.
All levels are welcome. Most people leave a $5 contribution for the instructor as she is not paid. Mats are available.
Every Tuesday & Thursday, 12:30 p.m.
